It started in 2010 as a small multisport event in Waihi, and from then year on year the competitor numbers have grown, and the race has become a regular part of Waihi’s event calendar.
Starting on Waihi’s main street with the 23km road cycling leg the competitors then proceed through subsequent stages including a 10km kayak, another 8km road cycle, a 10 km run, a 21km mountain bike leg, and then another short 400m run to the finish line under the iconic Cornish Pumphouse.
For the super brave you could enter as a solo competitor as did our Systems Manager Bruce Robinson, and for the less intrepid a team entry allowed you to share the load. 2021 saw Spectrum entering three teams and one solo competitor – our biggest event to date.
At Spectrum we encourage healthy living and by taking part in events like the Nugget we do both that as well as promoting teamwork and collaboration.
