To support our architectural aluminium business, we operate a light engineering fabrication workshop. Our light engineering fabrication business is key to our ability to be a leading supplier of architectural products and services as well as a leading supplier of standalone light engineering products.

An opportunity has arisen for a hands-on fabricator to join our Hamilton team as team lead. The person appointed to this role will be our go to person in the workshop for light engineering fabrication knowledge. This role would suit an experienced fabricator who is likely trade qualified and looking to move into a team lead role.

We have recently taken the shackles off this part of our business and are looking to diversify and expand our product range and services offered, so we are looking for a person with a diverse range of engineering fabrication knowledge, skills and experience, who is looking for a rewarding challenge and who wants to help us grow our business.

The main duties include:

Overseeing work carried out by our small light engineering fabrication team.
Working with our production planner to schedule work and to ensure that projects are completed on time.
Monitoring product quality throughout the manufacturing process to ensure that it meets company standards and being responsible for final product quality.
Mentoring and assessment of light engineering fabrication apprentices.
Be a champion for quality control and health and safety in the workshop.
When the team are all fully sorted – working on your own fabrication projects which is likely to be a major part of the role.
Participating in any necessary training or certification programs to keep up with changes in technology within the industry.


An ideal candidate will have:

Wide experience in development and fabrication of aluminium, stainless steel and mild steel components, using MIG and TIG Welding processes.
3 + years’ experience in light fabrication roles within New Zealand
The ability to read and interpret plans and technical drawings.
Some experience leading or in a senior role in an engineering or sheet metal team on a range of varied projects
The ability to train others to safely use fabrication machine tools.
Extensive welding experience using MIG and TIG and the ability to teach others.
Exposure and knowledge of the operation of CNC machine tools.
A desire to deliver top results & motivate their team.
Be a proven problem solver.
Able to communicate effectively with internal and other stakeholders
A willingness to also personally learn, grow, and develop within the company
A full NZ driver’s license
